EGS completes two large scale geotechnical campaigns for Offshore Windfarms in Taiwan

EGS just completed two large geotechnical campaigns for international offshore windfarm developers in Taiwan. In order to fulfill the scope of work, EGS mobilized a DP2 vessel with a purpose built 40 tons SWL heave compensated deployment system over the centerline moonpool for a 200kN seabed CPT unit.

Despite working through difficult conditions during the typhoon season and the monsoon, EGS acquired in excess of 4000m of deep seabed CPT data to depths in excess of 40m bsb, and around  700m of vibrocore samples while receiving several HSE awards during the course of the geotechnical campaign. Laboratory testing of soil samples and final processing of CPT data were done onboard the vessel to streamline data delivery and fast-track engineering.

In addition, EGS deployed the world’s first combined Thermal Conductivity and CPT system. The system provided valuable in-situ and realtime thermal conductivity data along the inter-array and export cables enabling cable engineers to work from a robust dataset to reduce manufacturing and installation costs of the power cables.

Continuing on the success of the 2018 geotechnical campaign, EGS is now preparing for the next survey season by strengthening its core geotechnical team as well as developing new technical solutions and final digital products.
